Here at The Disc Basket, we want to approach the idea of sponsorship a little differently.
There are plenty of clubs and businesses out there already sponsoring players who perform at a high level. Of course it's inspiring to see high profile players making incredible shots and displaying amazing talent. We love to see it. But not everyone can, or even wants to do those things. We feel that there is so much more to disc golf than throwing huge ace's. We see so many people within the disc golf community both locally and globally working to make the world a better place and using their love of disc golf to do it. That's something we want to support and be a part of.
We believe that disc golf can and should be for anyone and everyone. To us, casual groups of family or friends playing a round of disc golf are just as important to the community as high profile players. Going outside and spending time playing with people you like is such an important part of human behaviour, essential to our health and happiness. Disc golf is a very easy way to do that, and the more people who get involved, even casually, the more facilities we will see become available. We want to support people who go the extra mile to facilitate events, and get out in their communities to bring awareness of the sport to the wider population.
Bringing disc golf to people who would normally not find the sport, or perhaps any sport, is important to us as well. Disc golf is already a very accessible sport, and we'd love to see more and more people becoming aware of that fact. If we're being honest, disc golf is currently a bit "male, middle-class, and white" (bonus points if you just sang that in your head) when there's really no reason it should be. So people who are working hard to identify barriers and grow the sport of disc golf in their circle of influence and beyond are the people we want as a part of The Ace Team. through them, we're looking forward to seeing the ways in which disc golf can become an even more accessible and inclusive community activity.
Since we are still such a new business our team will remain pretty small for the time being, and we are still thinking of how to grow our team and what kind of support we can offer our team members. There will be some standard sponsorship benefits and expectations like uniforms and equipment in exchange for social media shout-outs and the like, but we want to create a team of people who are fantastic ambassadors for disc golf and to work with them to help them create programs that can benefit the community as well.
